For a flow transmitter, the equalising valve prevents full process pressure from being applied across the diaphragm.

Procedure for removal is to:

1. Open the equalising valve

2. Close the isolating valves

3. Vent/drain the valve

4. Remove the transmitter.

For installation, reverse the process.

Note that if you close the isolation valves before opening the equalising valve, any small leak in one leg can depressurise that leg.
